Surface Tension (2023) is modular exploration of the ocean surface temperatures and the collective tension the consequences of these shifts create.
In the aftermath of several years of extreme climate-related events on the Eastern seaboard of Australia (and beyond), maps of temperatures, rainfall and oceanic data became a constant media focus.
The subsequence community focus on climate drivers prompted me to consider new representations. In the face of rising sea levels and global climate change the question arose, 'how does water transform, how does humanity transform around it?'.
The series exists as a topographic surface study, with individual modules serving as studies of specific interiority, variance and tension, transforming across the work from calm to tempestuous. This series is ongoing and contemplates the absorption of climate data into the collective lexicon.
