ARTIST STATEMENT
Shifts in ocean temperature and sea level will have a profound effect on life in and out of the water. Where will climate refugees find safe harbour?
Haven explores the delight and fragility of intertidal zones, documenting real-time and projected changes to the Gold Coast's subtropical marine environment as Great Barrier Reef species expand their range to escape the impact of climate change.
Through the hopeful lens of adaptation, the work maps a transformed coastal landscape, charting a higher shoreline of sculptural modules that serve as delicate portals to speculative sites of habitation. Gauzy embroideries of marine life inhabit each mapped zone of of the work, documenting the delight and wonder of transformed ecologies.
